Altered recipe box- Shabby Chic

Hello, Lysa here today, sharing with you my most recent altered project.

I have had this very plain wood recipe box sitting in my craft room for quite some time. I probably picked it up at a garage sale knowing me. I always think ” I can rescue that!”

For this project, I busted out my new Craft & You Design “Vintage Time” paper collection and went to work. I covered the outside of the box using Vintage Time 2 adhering it with mod podge. Once dry, I also covered the outside with mod podge to make it a little more resilient when it comes to fluids as it will be sitting on the kitchen counter. I distressed the edges using Powder Puff chalk ink in Biscotti. I adhered some pearls I had in my stash.

The front embellishments consist of Prima mulberry flowers, fussy cut images and a ” Soulmates” chipboard piece sprayed with Azure Sea Asters Starburst spray. The flowers were sprayed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang “Starburst Sprays” in Azure Sea Asters and Cocklebells Coral. The fussy cut elements were from the “Vintage Time 2”, “Vintage Time 3”, and “Vintage Time 6” papers.

I did make a large handmade rose for the top using the “Vintage Time 5” paper and sprayed with Glory of the Sea Gold. The inside of the box was pained with white acrylic paint which I colored with Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s “Plumeria Pink” magical.

Here are a few more views of the box.

I also wanted to show the versatility of the papers. If you find yourself searching for the right embellishment to match with the paper, when in doubt, make flowers. Here are a few more roses I have made in 2″, 1.5″, and 1″ using the “Vintage Time 2” paper. The first image is just edged with chalk ink, the 2nd image is sprayed with “Glory of the Sea Gold” Starburst spray.

Thank you so much for looking. I hope this has inspired your to go out and make a plain item come to life.

Happy Crafting!
