Blog Hop with Nani Ke Ola

Now onto my project!

For this project I choose to use the new Writers Block collection from 7 Dots Studio.

I have been using embossing powders and archival inks on my projects lately and found that they are scattered all over my craft area. For ease of access without the clutter, I decided to alter an amazing wooden cigar box that was given to me by a friend. This box has rich color and it pairs nicely with the Writers Block papers.

The first thing I did was measure and cut strips from the Inkwell paper and adhere them into the spaces on the top and front of the box. I used black soot distress ink around the edges of the paper strips to give the area a more cohesive feel. At this point I loved the look so much I had trouble trying to figure out what to do next. I walked away and came back a few days later to finish.

I was inspired by the backwards imagery of the paper and decided to do something similar to the remaining sides. I turned the Writers Block  Alpha stencil backwards and added some molding paste which I tinted gray with fluid acrylics. Once all the sides were completely dry, I reapplied the stencil over the pasted areas and darkened the gray color up with black soot distress ink and a foam pad. They gray was just too light for the box and the ink worked like a charm.

At this point the outside was finished, so I moved onto the interior. I knew this box was meant for storage so I left the bottom of the box as is but I embellished the lid area. I used the Sincerely paper as the background. I added some hand cut photo corners and faux stitching to the edges. The pen nib was fussy cut from the Torn paper. I colored the Writers Block chipboard braces with cheap black acrylic paint and did the same to the alphas. The typewriter keys were rub-on stickers I had laying around.
