August 2015 Mixed Media Card Challenge

Is it August already? Where has the time gone? The summer months just seem to fly by too quickly. I am back in the craft room today getting my fingers messy with ink and different mediums for the August Mixed Media Card Challenge Blog.

I find that crafting with butterflies in the summer months comes so easy because I can find inspiration just right outside my front door. Butterflies frolicking around the garden, bright summer prints on clothing, just to name a few.

I decided to make this very chunky card for a close friend who’s birthday just happens to be this month. For this card, I layered come chipboard die cuts on plain white cardstock. Sealed everything using matte medium. I then used gesso over the whole thing and added some spray inks from Dylusions in various blue shades. I dropped some water over the entire area then dried this because it reminds me of the summer rain we get here in Washington state. I used some gold acrylic paint to lightly enhance the butterflies on the background as well as painting the large butterfly. I layered frayed cotton, leaves and flourish chippies from Creative Embellishments under the large butterfly. I felt I needed more, so I added some small resin roses from Ranger and some Gold Mica Flakes from Finnabair Art Ingredients. I just love how this turned out.

  1. Wow, this is bright and bold and oh, so cool. I love the chunkiness of it! The chipboard die cuts!? Wow. I hadn’t thought of that before. I really like the colors. I’m praying that some of your rain will head over to Germany!! It’s supposed to be 100 F here on Thursday. Also, It’s the driest I’ve ever seen it here. 😦
